A Nation Of Immigrants
For decades, illegal immigration has been a serious issue for the United States. Today, the solution for illegal immigration is continuously discussed by political leaders and citizens of America with approximately twelve million illegal immigrants residing in these United States. Amnesty is seen as a possible solution to this crisis. Many politicians and citizens view illegal immigrants as people who enrich the nation and are beneficial to the economy, and they believe that amnesty is the right solution to this problem. Other citizens view illegal immigrants as criminals or parasites to the United States while arguing that amnesty is a plan that is way too expensive to carry out. Due to the amount of benefits immigrants can have on America’s economy and the amount of money it would take for mass deportation, amnesty is the best possible solution for the immigration issue. American citizens and political leaders would now see how these new citizens of the country can benefit the economy and the many businesses of the United States.
America has provided many opportunities for those illegal immigrants who have lived in less fortunate places. These opportunities are what drives people to come into the country. Illegal immigrants come into the United States to work and to provide a better life for themselves and their families. Their hard work and their strive for a better life have led to plenty of numerous benefits to the economy, and especially for many businesses. Over five years, if work permits are given to these immigrants, they will contribute about $45 billion in payroll taxes to the American economy (Kristof 2). This is more beneficial when looking at the fact that immigrants are working the low-wage jobs that American citizens do not want to do. For over a decade, immigrants have also contributed $100 billion to Social Security without any intention of collecting benefits (Kristof 2). Immigrants are proved essential for an American economy that is already in debt. American businesses will grow and more jobs would have to be created, benefiting every person in the United States.
People opposed to illegal immigration view immigrants more as a problem than a benefit. They believe immigrants are criminals and argue that amnesty is just unaffordable. America currently has a national debt of $18 trillion, and as a country, the U.S. spends $600 billion more than it earns (Butowsky 1). With the cost of each illegal immigrant being about $14,000, the nation will be way more in debt if amnesty took place (Butowsky 1). Citizens remain concerned with the way America is spending their money and adding to the national debt.
Amnesty is definitely a costly solution, but having all the immigrants deported will also cost the country a lot of money. It would be extremely difficult to round up the millions of immigrants and deport them, and this would cost billions. Deportation is not a solution at all because there is nothing stopping those immigrants from attempting to enter the country once again. The many economic benefits immigrants bring can help the ongoing problem with the debt of America. The nation would be forced to create more jobs because of the cost of amnesty which will benefit the economy in the long-run. American businesses will thrive and that will encourage American citizens to spend money on their country’s businesses as opposed to spending on other foreign businesses. Unlike mass deportation, amnesty is an actual solution to combat the illegal immigration issue.
America is a nation built and founded by immigrants. People, no matter where they are from, work extremely hard to live a better life for themselves and their families. America should be proud that so many people would like to come into their country. The immigration dilemma has been an ongoing issue that has divided the nation. Instead of having heated debates, political parties and politicians need to address the issue together and provide a solution that is beneficial to citizens of the United States, like amnesty. Failure to act will continue to divide the country even more while continuing to accumulate to the rising debt. It is unfortunate that American citizens are contributing to the breaking up of families instead of attempting to assist their fellow human beings. For once, the United States must unite to fix the broken immigration policy and to bring forth a solution that will benefit the nation as whole.
Make sure to put quotation marks when quoting someone. You also needed to ad a few more pieces of evidence. Try talking about how deporting adults can separate families. It's great that you show the reader how immigrants can become beneficial to our economy. Although it seems that your whole argument is based of money. Overall, this is a paper that is on the right track, but has more potential.
ReplyDeleteAmericans see illegal immigrants as a threat because they're hard working people and they don't demand a lot of money, and they will change our traditional culture. illegal immigrants take jobs that we as Americans think are beneath us and they provide great tax revenue. Americans can used immigrants that have earned their way in our country, but undocumented immigrants should have to learn how Americans survive in this country. The articles also discuss more information other than money. It discusses the problem of illegal immigrants, and it also shows how they are beneficial to our country.try to include more information about the topic itself. This argument did not persuade people to think different, but if more factual information, critical thinking, and examples are provided this argument could be great. Over all, the main points were organized and explained very well.
ReplyDeleteYour argument was clear and persuasive. You had great ideas and backed them up with quotes from articles presented. When you stated, "It would be extremely difficult to round up the millions of immigrants and deport them, and this would cost billions. Deportation is not a solution at all because there is nothing stopping those immigrants from attempting to enter the country once again", this is so true. This statement helps make your claim more persuasive. Also stating how if this dilemma isn't addressed than it can only cause more problems is a great way to end your argument.
ReplyDeleteYour argument was very well written. You had very good statements for example the one where you mentioned that deportation is not the answer for the illegal immigration problem. People do not realize that it will take millions if not billions of dollars to deport every single immigrant in this country which will dig America more in the debt grave. Your argument was really good, you should just add a little bit more facts and more of what you think and the argument would be even better. Good job.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, as American citizens we need to all come together and try to find a reasonable solution that will benefit the nation as whole. If not then the country will continue to debate and will mostly likely not find a solution. You also did well on balancing both sides with supportive evidence. Another great thing you pointed out is that the United States was built by immigrants for immigrants.
ReplyDeleteBecoming a nation is what America should do. Not just Americans within Americans but with illegal immigrants. Stating that there's no stopping immigrants from coming to our country shows that they are willing to do whatever it takes. America needs to come to an agreement and let them have their American Dream. Good job in explaining your points clearly.
ReplyDeleteYou made a good argument on why an immigration reform should be introduced.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless you should have illustrated what would happen in the future if a reform were to happen. Will our laws be strengthened as a result of this? Good job on showing the deficit problem and the potential tax revenue immigrants can produce. Along with that, you essay did a good job on showing your readers that deporting every single illegal immigrant in the U.S would be an impossible task and simply not a solution. This action ultimately sets up the stage to some type of aid in the near future for every undocumented immigrant living in the U.S.
Your argument is very logical. You were correct when you said we need to get together as a nation and allow these immigrants to our country. You explain how immigrants can be beneficial to our country. They are many advantages and disadvantages to letting immigrants to our country. You explained and gave evidence on both positions of the issue. Overal, very ethical argument.
ReplyDeleteyou have a great argument that is very persuasive but you did seem to have evidence to support your explanations but it seem to still lack of evidence. Make sure to correctly quote an author or article when using it as evidence. One strong thing about your argument was that you supported both sides of the argument and you did provide reasoning for each side.
ReplyDeleteGood argument, it was concise. You showed and explained all of your points but you could have put a bit more depth into your explanations. The fact is people can not seem to accept change. They fail to see the break in the policy, and they fall behind in finding a suitable solution for it. Which is why it is up to the people in this nation to come together and make a change.
ReplyDeleteYour argument was clear and you stated your position clearly too. Although this argument was strong, it was solely based on the money issue rather than other issues caused by immigration in general. But it is true that amnesty is the best solution and deporting every illegal immigrant would only cost more money and time.
ReplyDeleteAmnesty is teh solution. Many illegal immigrants have contributed to the nation for many years win Social Security and received zero befits. In teh contrary, these senior immigrants have to continue to work to sustain themselves even when they are suppose to retire. Deportations are costly as well. Although not fully explained in the post, deportations are expensive to process, immigrants need to be sustained until this occurs, and american children of these undocumented people must be put into foster homes paid by the taxpayer in America. The United States have been able to afford such costly expenses so granting amnesty should not be a problem but a solution that will then benefit the overall economy with more tax income and greater safety.
ReplyDeleteThe idea that it will cost more to get ride of immigrants rather than keep them could be more expensive is one many individuals fail to see as well as myself. To have to deal with paperwork and deporting 11 million illegal immigrants is not only a hassle but it takes time, effort, and is costly. It would be much easier to grant amnesty and allow those undocumented members contribute to Americas economy and culture. The whole immigration issue has divided our nation and to be honesty it's something that at the very least make us proud to say that others see opportunity in this country and should be welcomed with open arms.
